Waiting in hospital can be stressful and difficult, especially when you arrive with little or no notice. We donated 100 brand new books to the Accident and Emergency Department at Sheffield Children's Hospital, so children have something to read and to help ease some of the boredom and anxiety that can come with waiting.

Love, or "wuv" as Jude would say, is definitely what makes the world go round. It was an honour to put together some treats for the children spending Valentine's Day on Ward 6. We sent 52 love themed books, 18 goody bags and lots of sweets to PACT. The goody bags were bustling with craft, giving the children something extra to fill their time and helping families create some special moments together.

We donated 18 Lunar New Year goody bags to Young Lives vs Cancer, to give to the children and young people on the Paediatric Oncology and Haematology Ward at Sheffield Children's Hospital. Every bag held several books, sweet treats, craft, decorations and a red box of gold coins. We created them so that families could enjoy experiencing something together. It was lovely to receive a message afterwards: "Thanks so much, we enjoyed making the dragon together tonight."

December was a busy month in the Book Factory. We donated 100 books to Henry Dancer Days storyteller Carmel, 82 for the children at the PACT Christmas party, 46 for the children at the Solving Kids' Cancer UK Christmas Concert, 100 to Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice and 300 to Sheffield Children's Hospital. We sent a further 40 books for PACT to share across day care and the paediatric oncology and haematology ward, along with iced biscuits, candy canes, blankets and dressin

In September we donated books for every child who came to the PACT family fun day. As September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we added some gold touches to each book for the children to find. In October we donated 130 books and goody bags to PACT, Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice and Candlelighters to share with the children. The goody bags were filled with sweet treats and little craft items.

July for Jude was a special month of reflection and celebration. It would have been Jude's 6th birthday, and it marked the first anniversary of his Book Factory. During the month we donated 1,140 brand new books through charities and good causes. Each book carried a little piece of Jude's spirit, and as we honoured his life, we thought about the positive impact he started and that we continue in his name. World Book Day celebrates reading and a love of books for children everywhere, and we were thrilled to mark it by donating 571 books to The Children's Hospital Charity. They were given to children on the wards and in outpatients, and some were even used at a narcolepsy event. We believe every child deserves access to good books. So when we heard that pupils at a local school were learning British Sign Language, we donated some books to help them along.

Over Christmas 2023 we donated books to Spires Foodbank. For many families there is simply no money for buying books. We believe the joy of reading can make a real difference to children's lives, so we want to make sure every child has access to books.

Between Jude's death in September and Christmas 2023, we donated hundreds of books to Young Lives vs Cancer, PACT (the Parents Association of Children with Tumours and Leukaemia) and Henry Dancer Days at Sheffield Children's Hospital. Books were a great escape for Jude and for us. Now we want to share that escape, and a little hope and joy, with other children affected by cancer.

We donated books to a local funeral director to support families at the hardest of times. The books give children a safe and gentle way to explore their feelings, and offer some guidance as they find their way through grief.
